Fusion promoter or fusion inhibitor?

چکیده
ononuclear phagocytes can fuse to form osteoclasts or multinuclear giant cells. The latter are hallmarks of Crohn’s disease, granulomas, tumors, and fungal and HIV infections. Though the precise function of these syncytia remains unclear, Takeda et al. (page 945) now provide important new insights into phagocyte fusion, suggesting that the process may differ considerably from other types of cell fusion. Earlier work identified several cell surface proteins required for phagocyte fusion, but the authors focused on CD9 and CD81, transmembrane proteins in the tetraspanin family that promote the fusion of gametes, myoblasts, and virus-infected cells. Surprisingly, the expression of both proteins is elevated in mononuclear phagocytes cultured under normal conditions, but under fusogenic conditions CD9 and CD81 expression M

Cloning, Expression, Purification and Immunoreactivity Analysis of Gag Derived Protein p17 from HIV-1 CRF35 in Fusion with Thioredoxin from Human Subjects
So far, recombinant antigens of HIV-1, the etiologic cause of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), have been widely used for the diagnosis and vaccine development. P17 or the matrix protein formed by the proteolytic cleavage of gag is strongly antigenic and is as conserved and immunogenic as p24. In some cases, antibodies to p17 are more prevalent than antibodies to p24 and the decline in...
متن کاملExpression of Hepatitis B Virus Core Antigen in Native and Fusion Forms in E. coli
DNA coding for the core antigen from hepatitis B Virus (HBcAg) was amplified, cloned and propagated in E. coli. The core protein was expressed in E. coli and the product was readily detected by Western blot. This protein can be used as a diagnostic material in serum screening tests. To increase the level of expression of this antigen in bacteria, two plasmids were constructed in which the gene ...
متن کاملIMPROVEMENT OF hGM-CSF EXPRESSION USING A FUSION SYSTEM BY DIRECTING PROTEIN TO THE PERIPLASMIC SPACE
Bacterial expression systems provide economic and logistic advantages in manufacturing proteins for human therapeutic purposes. However, most such proteins accumulate in insoluble biologicaIIy inactive form when overexpressed in bacterial cells. This is the case while attempting to produce recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (hGM-CSF) in E. coli. In this repor...
متن کاملSplenogonadal Fusion Operated as a Malignant Tumor
Splenogonadal fusion is a rare congenital malformation whereby the splenic tissue is found attached or surrounded by the testis, and presents in both continuous and discontinuous forms. Splenogonadal fusion may be misinterpreted as a primary malignant testicular or an adenomatoid tumor. Knowledge about the existence of such an entity is essential in order to preserve the testis during surgical ...
متن کاملNF-kappaB-dependent expression of nitric oxide synthase is required for membrane fusion of chick embryonic myoblasts.
The activity of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) has recently been shown to increase transiently but dramatically in chick embryonic myoblasts that are competent for fusion and that NO acts as a messenger for the cell fusion. Here we show that the rise in NOS activity is tightly correlated with an increase in NOS protein level, and its synthesis is under transcriptional control. In addition, a parti...
